Cult of True Womanhood

Barbara Welters was an idiot. That's horrible that she thinks that the four best attributes of women are piety, purity, submission and domesticity. I don't think you can characterize one sex over the other based solely on personality other than men are masculine and women are feminine, which is so vague there'd be no point in saying it. And in the US today those two descriptions don't fit either sex 100%.

Religious/piety could fit either sex today, but most people do not hold it as high as honesty, trustworthiness, or kindness. Purity still fits, sadly, because women who "get around" are seen as "low class," while men that "get around" are players, and aren't quite as "low class." Submission is reversed now because if a man made his girlfriend or wife be submissive, he would be a jerk and could get in legally trouble for domestic violence or something like that and submissive men are fairly common now. Domesticity isn't very important anymore, it comes down to "I like to cook, I'll cook dinner, so you wash the dishes in return" or "I'll clean inside just because I hate doing yardwork," not "WOMAN MAKE ME A PIE! I AM MAN HEAR ME ROAR!"

Overall The Cult of True Womanhood has no relevance in America today.

Hey, there is absolutly no problem with women still making us pie!!!! Yes they should have the complete right to vote and be equal. But there should be a law stating women still have to bake their men pie!!!! -Clay-

Actually Barbara Welter is a social scientist who looked at the time period and came up these classifications as a scientist. She didn't say these attributes should be followed but they were the expectations of the time period.
